Prism is a specialised part of a prescription used to help correct eye alignment problems, and it can reduce or relieve double vision. Rather than changing the focusing strength of a lens, prism gently redirects light so that your eyes can work more comfortably together. It is not part of every prescription, and is included only when it is likely to help.
When prism may be used
Prism is considered when the eyes need a little extra help to align and coordinate as a pair, which can ease certain symptoms.
- Double vision, or images that seem to overlap
- Eye strain or discomfort, particularly during near work
- Difficulty with the eyes working comfortably together
How we can help
During a comprehensive eye examination we can assess how well your eyes align and work as a pair, and determine whether prism may be helpful for you. If it is suitable, we can incorporate it carefully into your lenses to support clearer, more comfortable and more relaxed vision.
If you experience double vision or persistent eye strain, we warmly invite you to book a comprehensive eye examination with our practice so we can help.
