Long-Sighted

24 July 2026 3 min read Dr Dirk Booysen

Long-sightedness, also known as hyperopia, can make it more difficult to focus on nearby objects, and in some cases distant vision may be affected too. It is a common condition that occurs when light entering the eye focuses behind the retina rather than directly upon it. It is readily corrected, and the right lenses can make close work feel much more comfortable.

Common signs to look out for

The effects of long-sightedness can vary from person to person and often become more noticeable with age or after sustained near work.

  • Difficulty focusing clearly on close objects
  • Tired or aching eyes during reading or screen work
  • Headaches after periods of concentrated near tasks

How we can help

During a comprehensive eye examination we measure your vision precisely and recommend a personalised solution, whether that is spectacles, contact lenses or other options suited to your individual needs. The right correction can make everyday close work feel noticeably more comfortable and relaxed.

If focusing on nearby tasks has become more of an effort, we warmly invite you to book a comprehensive eye examination with our practice.
